CAT online examination 2010, a big success:

This was always on the cards and about to happen. Since 2008’s effort of providing an easy access to CAT examinations online, finally the expectations got met. With the heartbeats racing at an abnormal pace, the CAT online exam for 2010 began today. With thousands of students taking the online CAT, the venture became quite successful, unlike the experiences of last year because things were not just properly organized but was well oriented. The CAT online session witnessed phenomenal changes this time. The paper was distinctly divided into three divisions as is expected. The first 20 questions were dedicated to Data Interpretation followed by another set of 20 questions in English and then 20 questions of mathematics accordingly.

The online CAT 2010 became a better venture with the introduction of new technical assistants, which allowed students to easily operate computers and answer the questions in as little time as possible. The examination began with self-timer placed in every computer, which started as soon as the START button was pressed by the examinee. For ensuring user-friendlier environment, this year the online CAT examination committee forwarded students with a demo session of around 20 pages, which enabled them to understand the process better. Students were not just happy with the technicalities of the whole session but were satisfied with the over all paper structure and system.

How to ‘wow’ the admission committees of top B-Schools:

True is the story when the top MBA schools of India claim that they don’t even consider 20% of the applications they get for each batch. Well, sad but as they say, ‘Nothing is impossible’ and here are the tips that can actually get you grab the mast of your dream for a successful MBA career.

–         TIP 1: Score well:

Study hard and score well enough to bag yourself enough marks to apply to top MBA schools.

–    TIP 2: Don’t rush!

There is no particular advantage in being in the first round of applications. Take your time, fill all the necessary details, revise your form and then submit it accordingly.

–         TIP 3: Do proper research:

Don’t choose a B-School arbitrarily. Do your own research to pick the best for your career. Compare the schools carefully and visit as many campuses as you can. That would act as incentive in the interview when asked regarding your decision.

–         TIP 4: Know why you are interested in applying for the course?

All good schools want to know your reason for selecting the program you are applying for. Your application (if provided a place) can stand out unique in this regard if you take care to have a consistent story to support your decision. Admission officers like to see your application as one complete story of who you are.

–        TIP 5: Get your application reviewed by more than one:

To avoid errors or flaws in the application form, it is always a good idea to get your application reviewed by people whom you trust and who are aware of the technicalities of the situation.

–    TIP 6: Apply when you are ready:

Jim Holeman says, “I think that there are a lot of myths out there about strategies in terms of application deadlines. My advice to candidates is always apply when you feel that your application is at its strongest.” Nothing can create a worse impact than a half-filled or misleading admission form.

–         TIP 7: Be yourself:

Don’t try to match some imaginary ideal. Blackman said- “Often, people have an image in their minds of what kind of person a given school wants,” and that is where the trouble sets in. Just be yourself in the interview and see how it works.

–       TIP 8: Interview: Give your best shot:

Score in the interview is one of the most crucial decisive factors to get you the top MBA School. Be ready here to discuss your weak spots in the undergraduate transcripts or reasons for having low marks in some paper (even if not asked). Be confident, bold and specific in whatever you say and remember, you don’t have to know everything.

–     TIP 9: Don’t be desperate:

If you’re applying to a top business school you’re probably aware of the stakes. Having said that, Alex Chu says “there are few things uglier than having to deal with someone desperate, eager to please and overly ingratiating”. So please, don’t be desperate.

–        TIP 10: Consult with friends and make new contacts:

You’re going to have a lot of ups and downs throughout this process. There will be days that you’re sure you won’t get into any programs that you’ve applied for, while other days you may feel on top of the world. Either way, it really helps to have a community behind you the whole way!

The best MBA programme for you

Business administration professionals with advanced degrees are in demand in today’s business environment. It often becomes difficult for a student to select between schools for enrollment because all of them promise to forward their students’ career with that ‘extra edge’ which hardly is achieved at the end of the course, but it is the singular responsibility of the candidate to make the correct decision at the correct point of time. Here are few things to consider when deciding on an MBA program.

  1. What do you precisely expect from the MBA program?

Well now let me tell you that no two MBA programs are alike. They vary accordingly and have different syllabus. Therefore you need to know whether it will give you the necessary experience that you are looking for and whether the syllabus is relevant to your field of interest or not. It should provide you with practical training as well beside theoretical.

  1. Are you eligible for the course?

First and foremost, don’t take hasty decisions regarding your career. It is really crucial t know whether you are apt and keen on doing what you are intending to. Being an MBA is really not that easy and you can be your best judge, Therefore, know if you have the aptitude to successfully finish the course or not.

  1. Is a full-time 2 year course feasible for you?

It is important as well to take into consideration whether a particular MBA program is physically demanding or not and if yes is the answer, you should totally take care of factors if commutation, joining, distance, etc. are feasible or not.

  1. The fee structure is affordable or not?

Generally MBA as a course and over that from a good institute is little expensive than normal. It thereby becomes important to see if you are fit enough to bear the financial consequences. Reflect on issues like- after traveling, living and other study related expenses will it become tedious for you to manage the course fee; whether you need a loan for meeting the demand of the fee structure, etc.

Once you have asked yourself the above questions in relation to the different MBA programs that may interest you, you can determine which of those programs is best for you and positively addresses all the above areas in which an MBA program can impact you.

Search for top MBA schools doesn’t end in IIMs anymore in India.

It is almost an ‘IN’ trend now with the shift of outlook towards management and global economy to bag an MBA degree to give that ‘little extra’ to one’s profile. The problem that often students face is to leap into the course and then realize the amount of work and rigor needed to complete it. The MBA programme that India offers needs its students to get themselves organized.

Quite obvious when recruiters come to hire professionals from MBA backgrounds, they expect them to be thoroughly fit with management experiences and competent enough to deal with the ever changing global economy. It is in this respect that an MBA is recognized world wide as being a “cut above” an undergraduate business course. With virtually infinite number of colleges providing MBA program in India it becomes difficult to choose the best from the list. But top most B-Schools of the country emphasizes on the following factors like academic achievements, work experiences, references, personal interviews, community service and non-business interests. This is exactly where a student can recognize the authenticity of a college and its quality.

AICTE approved schools like XLRI, FMS, IMI Delhi, MDI etc. are popular in India for their experiences and contributions in the field of creating management and business professionals. The structure of the course covers everything from economics, marketing, international business, finance, information technology management and accounting, right through to government policy and organizational behavior.
